| Ophelia | |||
Ophelia is the second solo album of Natalie Merchant, released 3 years after Tigerlily, featuring 10 new songs. This well-produced album has a new band lineup, strings and some special guests.In this album, which Natalie calls “conceptual”, there are optimist songs like Kind & Generous and Life is Sweet, as well as dark songs (The Living, Effigy and others). Though some may relate this darkness to several Maniacs songs, Ophelia is a definitive departure from Maniacs and Tigerlily sound. Critics went a little unsure about it. Time magazine offered an empty interview, Entertainment Weekly discussed about the darkness of the album, as well as other newspapers. These 10 intimate songs bring several feelings and reactions about: a worthy journey through Natalie’s new music.
